Braeside Nursery/Infant School has always had a school garden but during 1998 a large project was undertaken in the garden area to develop its educational and environmental use. This project was carried out under the umbrella of the Beechgrove Garden's Hit Squad - Community Corner. The wonderful support of parents, staff, and friends of the school was partnered with the generous donations of equipment and materials from local businesses. By the end of the year the school garden had become a valuable outdoor classroom for the pupils to learn through.

The garden's theme is Aberdeen and the North East and it has four main focal points:

  • Farming - small fields and dry stone dykes within this area are symbols of the North East's generations of farming folk who have harvested and exported quality crops and also reared world famous cattle of various breeds

  • Fishing - the fishing boat and nets in this area remind us of the distinguished maritime history Aberdeen has not only as fisher folk but also as first class shipbuilders

  • Granite - various pieces of granite around the garden remind us of Aberdeen's history as granite producers

  • Oil - the drill bit and valve represents Aberdeen's important involvement with the oil industry over the years

The brightly coloured train, included in the garden, represents the transient population of Aberdeen and the North East in the past and at present.
